Just A.S.K. (Ask. Seek. Knock.)
~ Dawnn Brown
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Matthew
The New King James version of the Bible has a subtitle above Matthew 7:7 that says, “Keep Asking, Keep
Seeking, Keep Knocking.” In the section of scripture, Jesus’s teaches us about persistence in prayer.
a. Ask: God desires that we ask Him for what we need and what we want. Asking helps us to set
our focus on God and to call on Him as our Source in everything. “Now this is the confidence
that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we
know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have
asked of Him.”
b. Seek: God desires that we look for and to Him in all things. Seeking helps us set our focus on
God’s plan. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to
you as well.” Matthew 6:33
c. Knock: God desires we continue to request and seek access that only He has the power to grant.
Knocking encourages a repeated action of asking and seeking. “For everyone who asks receives,
and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
God loves us and desires to give us good gifts. Jesus’s teaching in Matthew 7 on prayer shows how
persistence is both welcomed and rewarded by God. Our asking, seeking and knocking reflect faith and
trust in God.
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and
that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Father help us to A.S.K. You for all that we need and trust that Your will and plan is best. In Jesus’s
Name, Amen
