Why are you Still Performing? The Audition is Over!
By Sister Pat Turner

In life auditions are everywhere. We audition for cheer squads, school plays and sport
teams. The world teaches us that love and acceptance must be earned through
performance. I believed that I had to perform in order for God to accept me and that
somehow, I could fix me and live sinless.

Over time, my knowledge of God and my relationship with Him grew much deeper. I
learned about God’s character through His Word and spending time with Him.  Jesus
invites us into rest, relationship, and freedom.
Scripture tells us:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God, not a result of
works.” — Ephesians 2:8-9

“There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew
11:28

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of
God!” — 1 John 3:1

In Christ, the audition is over.  Jesus already secured our acceptance through the Cross. Religion says: Perform
perfectly so you can be accepted.”  Jesus says: “You are accepted through Me,
because in your heart you believe Me, now walk in freedom.”

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us beyond our mistakes, failures, and
insecurities. Thank You that through Jesus Christ we no longer have to perform to earn
Your love. Your grace covers us, Your mercy restores us, and Your love calls us Your
own.

Heal every heart that feels exhausted from trying to prove itself worthy. Remind us that
the cross already settled our value. Teach us to rest in Your presence and help us to
walk in confidence, knowing we are accepted, forgiven, and chosen. Strengthen our
relationship with You so that our lives flow from intimacy, not performance. Let our
worship be real, our service be joyful, and our faith be rooted in Your love.
In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen and Amen
